Car Seat Clinics
Child passenger safety is the topic we are asked most about and with good reason. Here in the State of Connecticut we find a 90% misuse rate in car seat installation and an overall misuse rate of 85% across the county.
Motor vehicle crashes account for 40% of all unintentional injuries. Think about how many times a day we place our children in the car, grocery shopping, trips to the doctor, play dates, errands around town. As a society we have come to rely on our vehicles to accomplish day to day activities.
It is important that we ensure our children are buckled in properly each and every time they get into a vehicle, this includes the five-minute trip to the store. Most crashes occur within 20 miles of your home at speeds less than highway speeds.
During a car seat clinic parents and caregivers drive-up in their car, with the child's car seat and hopefully the child. The car seat will be inspected by a certified Car Seat Technician who will ensure that the seat is installed properly, is proper for the age/height/weight of the child and ensure that the seat has not been recalled or damaged. The technicians will then install the seat properly and show the parent/caregiver how to install it properly. The whole process usually takes 15 to 20 minutes per car seat.
If you would like to arrange a car seat clinic, please give us a call for more details. We have a 14' trailer that is designed strictly for car seat events and is loaded with all the materials needed to do the job. The goal of this program is to educate the public and provide the instruction necessary to help keep our children SAFE.
