Playground Safety Inspections

As children we all loved to go to the playground! Besides being fun it provided an opportunity for us to develop motor, cognitive, perceptual and social skills. All too often, however, playgrounds are the site of unintentional injury.

In a 1998 survey, US playgrounds received an overall grade of C- when rated on physical hazards. Playgrounds can have many areas that pose risk such as places where a child's head can become caught causing strangulation, nut and bolts that stick out to far causing a risk of impalement and pinch points that can crush small fingers.
